Family
Participation
When
a resident enrolls into Gatehouse, we ask that they are brought
to Gatehouse by family, usually parent(s). From the start,
we want families to be on board with us as we work to assist
the resident in making better life choices.
The
thousands of miles that separate a resident from their parents/caregivers
doesn't mean that the dynamic between son/daughter and parent/caregivers
has changed, in fact sometimes the behaviors are intensified.
Through ongoing phone conversations, Gatehouse help parents
to explore their changing patterns of parenting and we challenge
the residents to act in more appropriate ways.
Family
therapy is provided via phone or in person through Gatehouse
Therapeutic Health Services by licensed professionals.
Family
visits are allowed as needed and are crafted to help parents
and residents work towards better levels of communication.
Family
Week and Family Workshops occur four times throughout
the year for a particular family. Gatehouse has designed a
customized curriculum to meet the needs of residents and families
and this process of healing is the key in our family work.
